An Air Cairo Airbus A320neo was damaged after flying into a severe hailstorm while on approach to Stuttgart Airport in Germany.
The aircraft, registered SU-BVN, was operating flight SM2952 from Marsa Alam to Stuttgart on 16 July when it encountered a sudden storm cell during the approach.
Large hailstones shattered the aircraft’s nose cone (radome) and cracked the cockpit windshield. With the damaged windshield significantly reducing outside visibility, the flight crew relied primarily on the aircraft’s instruments to complete a safe landing.
No injuries were reported among the passengers, despite the substantial damage sustained by the aircraft.
